Guinness World Record truck highlights the Daimler Trucks stand
Ever seen a world record-winning truck? Well, you’ll get your chance at the 2010 Melbourne International Truck, Trailer and Equipment Show from March 18th-20th, 2010.
The Daimler Trucks stand will showcase a super-frugal Mercedes-Benz Actros Safety Truck in a similar specification to a vehicle which Mercedes-Benz claimed a place in the Guinness Book of Records with the most fuel efficient truck in the world.
The Actros was officially recognised by the Guinness Book of Records as the most fuel-efficient 40-tonne truck after an extensive test saw it consume a meagre 19.44 litres per 100 kilometres (5.14 km per litre) – the equivalent of less than 0.8 litres per 100 kilometres per tonne.
The 6x2 Actros 2541 on show in Melbourne has been fitted with the full range of fuel maximising, safety and emission control technologies, including:
- Lift axle;
- Michelin low friction tyres;
- Aerodynamic A-pillars and sun visor;
- Aluminium turntable (70kg);
- Electronic Stability Program, ABS, Electronic Pneumatic Braking – safety attributes that assist the driver in unstable braking conditions;
- Safety package (Lane Assist, Proximity Control, Active Brake Assist and Voith Retarder);
- Side Extenders and Side Skirts;
- Fuel Economy meter (VDO);
- Fleetboard;
- Powershift transmission with automated 2-pedal function, roll back and EcoRoll
The Actros is fitted with Mercedes-Benz’s all new EEV software. Available in 410 and 440 hp engines, the software manages the truck’s emissions control to provide 30% fewer particle emissions than Euro 5 standards, which is the next round of Australian emission standards due in 2011.
The show truck also has all the standard features of the latest Actros including rain-sensitive wipers, automated lights and xenon headlights.
“We have been trialling this truck with some of our fleet customers and we’ve received overwhelmingly positive feedback,” said Carlo Beltrame, Senior Executive of Daimler Trucks.
“This is a fantastic vehicle that is proving itself on our roads as an extremely fuel efficient, safe, productive and competitive vehicle.”
Freightliner on display
The big ‘Benz headlines a wide range of product on display, which also includes a 110-inch raised roof Freightliner Argosy, a Columbia CL112 powered by Detroit’s MBE4000 engine, plus the blue collar Sterling HX9500.
There will be two striking Freightliner CST120 Century Class 6x4 prime movers on the stand, both featuring Detroit Diesel power. The show-stopper of the two features a 70-inch raised roof, Series 60 with the Eaton RTLO-20918B transmission and Meritor RT-46 160GP rear axle.
Detroit Diesel will be previewing the successor to the Series 60 – the new DD15. The big bore unit can punch out 455-560hp and 1550-1850 lb-ft of torque with up to 5% better fuel economy than its predecessor.
If that wasn’t enough, visitors to the show can also feast their eyes on the Freightliner Argosy team transporter for the Holden Racing Team, with drivers Will Davison and Garth Tander signing autographs on the Friday and Saturday.
